Measuring Guide
Accurate measurements help your curtains or blinds fit the window correctly. Always use a metal tape measure, record every measurement carefully and measure in centimetres unless the product page states otherwise.
Measure the window in centimetres and record width first, followed by drop.
Measure the curtain track or pole rather than the window itself.
Measure the full width of the track from one end to the other. Do not measure only the width of the window.
Measure the usable width of the pole between the decorative finials. Do not include the finials in the measurement.
The starting point depends on whether the curtains will hang from a track or a pole.
Measure from the top of the curtain track down to the position where you want the curtain to finish. This allows the curtain heading to conceal the track.
If the track projects away from the wall, confirm that the curtain heading and hooks are suitable for the track.
Measure from the underside of the curtain ring down to the position where you want the curtain to finish.
Measure to approximately 1 cm above the window sill so the curtain can hang freely.
Measure to the required position below the sill. A drop of approximately 10–15 cm below the sill is commonly used, provided there is no radiator or furniture in the way.
Measure to approximately 1 cm above the floor for a clean finish without the curtain dragging.
Floors and window frames may not be perfectly level. Measure the drop at more than one point when necessary.
Choose this option when the blind will be fitted within the window opening.
Measure the width of the recess at the top, middle and bottom. Record the smallest measurement so the blind can move freely without catching against the sides.
Measure the recess height on the left, in the centre and on the right. Record the smallest measurement so the blind can lower freely.
Check for handles, tiles, vents or other obstructions that may affect the movement of the blind.
Choose this option when the blind will be fitted over and around the window opening.
Measure the width of the window recess and add enough overlap on both sides to reduce light gaps and provide suitable coverage.
As a general guide, add at least 7 cm on each side, giving a minimum total addition of 14 cm.
Choose the position where the blind will begin above the window, then measure down to the required finishing position.
Allow sufficient space above the recess for the blind mechanism and check that the finished blind will not obstruct handles, radiators or furniture.
Measuring Guide
Use a rigid metal tape measure rather than a fabric measuring tape.
Record all measurements in centimetres.
Always write the width first and the drop second.
Measure each window separately, even when the windows appear identical.
Measure at least twice before placing an order.
Do not make your own fitting deductions unless the product instructions specifically ask you to do so.
Check for window handles, radiators, furniture, tiles and other possible obstructions.
